Obituary of Erna Kuranyi

KURANYI

In the presence of her family, Erna Lillian Kuranyi (nee Kempyn) of Rodney passed away at Four Counties Hospital on Saturday November 12, 2022, in her 90th year. She went to be with her loving husband, Joe, of 66 years, and is now free of suffering and pain.

She lived a long and happy life, and will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children: Linda (John) Bakker, Nancy Carey (Wayne), Elaine (Bob) Gray, Esther (Steve) Smith, the late Randy (Diane) Kuranyi and Sharon (James) Stepniak.

Cherished grandmother of Jonathon (Anne), Sara (Tim), Joshua, Amy (Tony), Jasmine (Zach), Grant (Ginger), Joe (Torie), Jessica (Jordan), Rebecca, Vanessa, Melissa (Alex), Scott (Meaghan), Ryan, Nathalie, Crystal, Kate, Alicia, Jenna (Mike), and great grandmother of 24.

Dear sister of Ardeth (Mike) Bildy, and sister-in-law to the late George (Joyce) Kuranyi, Julie (Don) Raey, Betty (the late Jim) Rogers, Steve (Lorraine) Kuranyi, the late Cathy McDonald, Rosie (Nick) Lawrence, Anne (Dave) Harkes and Michael (Cheryl) Kuranyi.

Erna loved music, books, puzzles, cards and games, crafting, knitting and crocheting, and experiencing nature. She shared her love of music by playing piano for weddings, church services and meetings, and playing piano duets with her children. She also treasured moments spent with family and friends.

Family and faith were top priorities. Erna valued hard work and spent much of her time tending to the necessities which would ensure each of her cherished children were prepared for success.  She shared her love and commitment to Christ with her children and was comforted in her final days when her family would lovingly sing hymns while holding her hand, rub her back and stroke her hair.

Erna will be remembered for her warm welcomes, joyous laughter, singing of hymns and songs, care for her community, hundreds of handmade baby blankets, and her home cooking, especially her chili and iced tea. Her children will deeply appreciate the opportunities she gave them and her support of their creative endeavours. She left them a legacy which will guide them through the rest of their lives, and be passed on to future generations. Grandchildren have fond memories of family gatherings at the farm under the pine trees, and playing games such as cards, dominoes, dice and scrabble.

When you look at the sky tonight, consider that one bright shining star might not be a star after all, but an opening in the sky where our loved ones shine down on us. Let the memories we carry in our hearts and the knowledge that she is with God in Heaven give us comfort and peace.

Her family will forever be grateful to the staff at Four Counties Hospital for their exceptional and compassionate care for Erna.

Visitation will take place at Denning’s of Rodney, 212 Furnival Road on Friday, November 18th, 2022 from 11-1 pm.  Service will take place at 1 pm with burial to follow at the Rodney Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or Grace Lutheran Church, West Lorne would be appreciated as your expression of sympathy.  Share a memory at www.westelginfuneralhome.com   519-785-0810
