Obituary of Margaret Fowler Mistele

With love and sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved mother who passed away peacefully, Monday, February 9, 2015 at Beattie Haven Retirement Community. Margaret was born on May 19, 1918 and was raised with her two brothers Donald and William in St. Thomas, Ontario. Margaret began her nursing career on October 14, 1936. She entered Memorial Hospital as a probationer. Her books for the probation term cost $7.05. She graduated June of 1939. The processional at graduation was followed by O Canada, but the recessional was preceded by God Save The King! She successfully passed her nurses exam. Her registration number and certificate was issued for the cost of $5.00. Not happy with her education, she boarded a train to Montreal and studied another year at McGill University. She graduated in 1941 with a certificate in teaching and supervision. She came back to St. Thomas Memorial Hospital at the age of 23 and became a nursing supervisor. She married and stayed home as a farm wife for a short time and raised four children. She returned to work as an instructor at the Psychiatric Hospital in St. Thomas. Following this, she began and taught a Registered Nursing Assistant course in Strathroy Hospital. Her last employment was at Four Counties as a pharmacy supervisor. We believe her career as a nurse was stimulating, satisfying and successful. Her family is proud of her work ethic and accomplishments. Margaret is survived by her children Mary Bilyea (Harvey), Anne Velle (Andy), Ruth McDermid (Tom) and daughter-in-law Carol Mistele (Paul). She is survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Maurice Mistele, her son Paul Mistele and her siblings William Luton and twin brother Donald Luton. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 2:00 pm from Calvary United Church in Rodney with visitation one hour prior. DENNING'S OF RODNEY, 519-785-0810 has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences can be sent to www.denningfuneralhomes.com. As as expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Beattie Haven Retirement Home or the Rodney Calvary United Church Women’s Group.
